Turkey has extended a message of warning to the Tehran authority in the shadow of growing tension over Iran's nuclear ambitions. Speaking in Ankara yesterday, Iran's National Secuity Council Secretary Ali Larjani said "We are not planning on building nuclear weapons. We have commands on that subject."
A joint letter has been sent to Turkish Foreign Minister from the Executive Director of Human Rights Watch, Holly Cartner, and other groups, which addresses the issue of compensation paid to internally displaced people in Turkey. The letter mentions the deadline for payment which was July 27, 2005 and also the provincial damage assessment commissions, which the letter says has made unfair rulings. The rulings were "inconsistent" with the government's avowed intention to eliminate the difficulties faced by citizens who leave the village, according to the letter.
