I have been following Erkan Mumcu since his days in ANAP. He always looked to me like a "unique, modern" politician. But I was wrong. He was neither unique nor modern. I realized I was wrong on Friday. As soon as he became head of ANAP, he began to spread around incredible words about AKP. But words like these are unbecoming to someone who had sat for two years in the position of MP for the party, and who had kept so much in the company of the party chairman. With his words about AKP, Mumcu has managed to damage himself more than the party. Especially the suggestion he has made about the MPs who have transferred from ANAP to AKP. Mumcu is implying that these transfers have been made with money being paid to the transferee. It's possible. I don't know. Maybe it's true. But even if that's how it is, this is no victory for Mumcu. Because then people like me will ask him: "Erkan, if it's true that these party transfers were done for money, why did you not seperate yourself from AKP when you learned about them? Why didn't you shout from the moutain tops then? You shared rows of seats with these same MPs that you are accusing of taking money for switching parties, and it never seemed to bother you. Now that you've separated from AKP and moved to the leadership of another party, now you've come to your senses? These questions come to the minds of anyone with any sense. In which case Erkan Mumcu has become just another ordinary politician. Mumcu's actions don't make him look like he's in the right here, but they sure help Tayyip Erdogan. Â
