İkinci Dünya Savaşı'nın tüm dünyayı karanlığa ve kana boğduğu yıllardı. Tek amacı bu kötü günlerde ailesini biraz olsun eğlendirmekti. Bunun için de kuklaları kullanıyordu. İşte o zor günlerde keşfettiği oyunculuk tutkusunu hayatı boyunca yitirmedi ve bu sayede de adını sinema tarihine yazdırdı. Öyle ki "sinemanın yaşayan efsanelerinden biri" haline geldi.

HRW: Headscarf ban will limit women's opportunities
Human Rights Watch has reported that the decision taken up by the European Court of Human Rights to reinforce the headscarf ban in Turkey will deny thousands of women access to higher education and a professional life in Turkey. The ECHR's Grand Chamber last week rejected an appeal made by Leyla Sahin, who was studying to become a medical doctor in turkey, but was banned from medical school when she refused to remove her headscarf. In the end she had to study abroad.
