The Turkish president and Bahrain's king signed on Monday a joint declaration on cooperation between the two countries in the Turkish capital of Ankara. The king departed Tuesday, after meeting Turkish army chief Yasar Buyukanit.
Turkey and Bahrain signed a joint declaration on cooperation in several areas, including politics, security, economy, education and culture, after Turkish President Abdullah Gul and King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa of Bahrain discussed several issues during their meeting in Ankara, the state-run Anatolian Agency reported.
The declaration said the main goal was to preserve peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Both parties reached consensus to boost collaboration in regard to the fight against international terrorism and organized crimes, it added.
The declaration said efforts for a fair and comprehensive solution to the Cyprus issue on the basis of U.N. parameters would be supported.
Bahraini companies would be encouraged to make more investments in Turkey and vice versa, it also said.
DINNER AT PRESIDENTIAL PALACE
Gul earlier on Monday hosted a dinner in honor of the Bahrain's king at the Cankaya Presidential Palace.
Gul said the king's visit to Turkey would be a turning point in boosting friendly relations between Turkey and Bahrain.
"We have excellent political relations. Both parties have eagerness to improve economic and commercial relations, too," Gul said, adding Turkey aimed at becoming a "positive" power to secure peace, tranquility and stability in the region and the world.
"There is need to find a solution to the Palestinian issue urgently. We are concerned about developments in Iraq. The threat of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction cause a great concern for our countries and the region," he was quoted by Anatolian Agency as saying.
All countries in the region should have a sound cooperation for fair and permanent solutions to the mentioned problems, he also said.
Bahrain considered that Turkey, which has been working to strengthen the mentality of living together, modesty and creativity, was a responsible partner, Anatolian Agency quoted al-Khalifa.
He said Turkey had basic roles to play in security, stability and development of the region with its possibilities and position, and added Bahrain was ready for cooperation.
Al-Khalifa met Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara earlier in the day.
