Teacher of expat teens ’lands’ en NASA institute
ISTANBUL - A historian and social anthropologist by training who has spent a quarter of her life as an expat, Sema Alpayta is this year's only Turkish participant in NASA's Aerospace Institute taking place later this month. She hopes to use her experience to help enrich the lives of the expatriate teenagers she teaches in Istanbul as well as the community.

It is impossible for someone with some amount of logic not to feel horrified by what’s being experienced in Gaza. Poor Palestinians are being forced into the corner, hit by the huge Israeli army. The word "being hit" would be too light. They are openly butchered. The whole world is in uproar, but the United States takes Israel under its wing and helps fight Hamas. It takes part in the murder.
Is Christmas really un-Islamic?
Every year, toward the end of December, warnings come from some of the conservative Islamic voices in Turkey. They advise their co-religionists to avoid indulging in New Year’s Eve celebrations, which they see as a "Christian tradition." Some of them, especially the most orthodox, even go as far as saying that Muslims will be betraying their faith if they sympathize with Santa Claus or Christmas trees.

Explosives laden minibus was hidden in Van for one year
Police are reporting that the Mercedes Vito minibus found loaded with explosives in an Ankara parking lot last week had been hidden for one year in the Southeast Turkey city of Van for one year after having been stolen before that from Istanbul. So far, a total of 30 different people are being sought by police in connection with the event; the suspects are thought to be in a wide range of cities, including Istanbul, Van, Diyarbakir, Hakkari, Sirnak, and Siirt.
