ISTANBUL - The estuary of two small rivers that come from the Belgrade Forest, the Golden Horn historically provided a great basin before it flowed into the Sea of Marmara. In the 19th century, the Ottoman Empire’s attempts to imitate the West and industrialize led to factories being built along the Golden Horn. ISTANBUL - A senior member of the Kadiri religious order joined the opposition Republican People’s Party, or CHP, in Istanbul late Tuesday, announcing he was bringing 30,000 votes with him. At a ceremony held at the CHP Sultanbeyli branch office, a party badge was pinned on Abdül Hafız Aydın by the mayoral candidate of the party for Sultanbeyli, Osman Nuri Bedir.

Gunay: Turkey is home to 9 World Heritage Sites
Turkish Culture & Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay said Friday that there were 9 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Turkey. Gunay paid a visit to the ancient city of "Pamukkale" (Hierapolis) located in western province of Denizli accompanied by Denizli Governor Hasan Canpolat and Denizli Mayor Nihat Zeybekci.
