ANKARA - Earthquake proofing work that is being carried out on Istanbul’s Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge over a 40-day period causes chaos to the city’s already congested traffic flow. The aftermath of hours of gridlock on the first days left the public fleeing to alternative routes causing even more congestion at peak times on first bridge and on ferry boats.
BAGHDAD - Twenty-two people were killed, seven of them in a car bombing west of Baghdad, as a spate of attacks hit Iraq on Monday just days before U.S. troops must leave Iraq's cities. Seventy-six people were wounded in the attacks. Security and hospital officials said the dead included three Iraqi soldiers, three university students on their way to sit their final exams, and a four-year-old child.

ISTANBUL - During the trial for Baran Tursun, who was shot dead by a police officer, when the judge asked if any police in civilian clothes were present in the courtroom, six policemen stood up. Their presence has raised questions about if they are on official duty to watch the case or not, Anatolia news agency reported.
According to a statement released by the Gendarme Command Headquarters, a truck was stopped on the Isparta-Antalya highway around Yeşilkaraman Köyü. During a search of the vehicle special forces discovered 362 parcels holding 4,344 fake rakı bottles. The fake rakı was hidden under empty fruit and vegetable boxes. The driver is being held in custody by the M.D.B.
