The saga of an unusual record: A Turkish history album for piano
ISTANBUL - It’s not everyday there’s a compact disc recording with a timeless quality about it that can be played many times with pleasure. Not only that, but clearly a great amount of research was invested in finding copies of the relevant music. All the tracks on the CD are marches composed for the Turks in the 19th and 20th centuries. Reşit Mehmet Erol is the man behind this idea of putting history onto a music recording.
Pamuk case called off by Justice Ministry
Acclaimed Turkish author Orhan Pamuk has been reprieved from having to be tried for "insulting Turkishness." In a written statement sent to the Sisli Criminal Court by the Justice Ministry, it was affirmed that, according to the new Turkish Penal Code, there is no authorization given for such legal action against the writer. The case opened against Pamuk had been requesting that the writer receive up to 3 years for statements he made to a Swiss magazine earlier this year regarding Armenians and Kurds killed in Turkey.

Ali Talat President of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), nomination of a Turkish politician -Kemal Dervis- as UNDP administrator, successful privatization and low inflation rate in economy were landmark events of the year 2005, as far as Turkey is concerned. Pamuk's four alternatives
The controversy surrounding the trial of novelist Orhan Pamuk continues with European observers closely following the developments. Pamuk faces trial for a magazine interview he gave on February 9. In the interview he said that 30,000 Kurds and one million Ottoman Armenians were killed in Turkey and that no one dared to talk about it. Pamuk is charged under Article 301 of the country's recently revised penal code for insulting Turkishness.
Human Rights Watch call for acquittal of Orhan Pamuk
Director of Europe and Central Asia for Human Rights Watch, Holly Cartner, said on Thursday that the trial of Orhan Pamuk will show the world which direction Turkish justice is heading. "The right signal would be prompt acquittal and a strong statement from the bench affirming that Turkish law protects freedom of expression,” added Cartner. Human Rights Watch is sending observers to the trial of Orhan Pamuk, which is due to start on Friday, December 16.
