Ahmet Türk vows not to testify in the courts
VAN - As long as there is immunity no depositions will be given, said the co-chairman of the Democratic Society Party, or DTP, at a rally in the southeastern city of Van. A court has sought the depositions of five lawmakers from the DTP on terrorism-related issues.

Professor Türkan Saylan was a special person; there is no doubt about that. Even if you didn’t know her personally or closely, this is obvious. Her short life story is enough to explain how special she was. Saylan was 74, and we knew that it was time for her to go after long years of battling cancer. So it was not surprising to see such a crowd attending her funeral ceremony.

Pro-Kurdish mayors jailed for 10 mths for PKK propaganda in Turkey
ISTANBUL - A Turkish court Tuesday sentenced pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party, or DTP, mayors from the southeastern provinces of Batman and Diyarbakir to 10 months in jail for spreading propaganda for the terrorist PKK organization.

The government has finally made the right decision and declared May Day a holiday for Turkish labor once again. After 29 years, Turkish labor has got back the May Day International Labor Day holiday, which was canceled by the 1980 military coup administration. This decision by the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, government has to be appreciated.
