Bad luck comes from a child's last name

There are some solid rules in politics that you cannot change no matter how hard you try. These rules apply everywhere in the world. No matter how honestly you work or whether you stick to rules it’s all in vain. If you are a leader or a politician at the forefront, then your family and foremost your children are in a difficult position. They are examined under the magnifying glass whenever their action involves money. Even if they don’t earn any money it is always said that they earn hand over fist.

Even if nothing could be proven they’d be accuse with words like, "These people are so smart that they hide their embezzlement and it is impossible to uncover it."

The situation is even more severe in poor countries or countries that are governed by a dictatorship. It is impossible to make people believe the opposite because there was such fraud in the past. In rich democratic Western countries more tolerance exists but nevertheless children of politicians have always been looked upon with suspicion. People don’t distinguish between innocent or guilty, they put children of politicians in the same basket.

The partnership between Bilal ErdoÄŸan-Sema ErdoÄŸan and Cihan Kamer of Atagold took me to a time years ago. Check it out, it’s funny how much they earn but the issue is transforming into a huge fraud. The reason is their last name is ErdoÄŸan. The public righteously has become suspicious. They are looking to find something beneath it. I’m not sure if you remember Ä°smet Ä°nönü’s brother Ömer Ä°nönü who inherited from his father a mining business but he could not escape being labeled a "thief."Â

İnönü was known for being picky in matters of honor but still people used to talk about his brother. It was never proven but he was always accused. They put him through this and when he finally died people wrote, "We probably made a mistake, there was nothing behind it." Do you remember Turgut Özal’s two sons?

Ahmet and Efe were blamed for embezzling billions of dollars and obtaining enormous commissions. They had a very hard time. Today we see there is no trace of those billions. Their lives show that they have suffered this torture in vain. There is no money present. The most important element for these people coming up to this point is that both the children and their fathers have not shown enough sensitivity. Everyone who enters politics needs to abide by these informal/unwritten rules. This is a bill for entering politics.

It’s the same in Turkey and everywhere else in the world. In our country a small amount of money will cause a lot of turmoil, while in rich countries the alarm bell rings when the amount reaches a large sum.

Now these types of developments harm the Ergenekon case the most. Hurşit Tolon was released due to a lack of proof after remaining in custody for seven months. Is that fair? Wouldn’t there be a question in everybody’s mind?

Now that’s not right
I don’t share any of Hurşit Tolon’s opinions. As a matter of fact when I read Fatih Altaylı’s article I find out that Hurşit Tolon complained about me to Aydın Doğan when I was appointed the head of Kanal D saying: "How could you appoint this dangerous man to this job."

Despite this I object to what has been done to Tolon. Who knows how many people there are in the same situation with Tolon and who are kept in custody, and are not able to raise their voices.

I touched on this issue in my former articles. Boorishness in the judicial system destroys the feeling of justice in a society. Those who are guilty, even if they received punishment, are proven innocent in the public’s conscience. They don’t appear guilty and work it out for themselves. Ergenekon prosecutors should know that as long as they do not work meticulously the importance of this case will melt away.

To our regret, this general approach does not prevail only in the Ergenekon case. Our justice mechanism for years as a result of this barbarity and carelessness has been transformed into a mechanism that, instead of dispensing justice, is treating people unjustly.
