Pro-Kurdish DTP and Iraq plan a World Kurdish Conference

It was important as the first step in the serious preparation that is being undertaken for the upcoming period.

 

I spoke to Turk indepth regarding the visit; in summary, what he told me from his meeting with Barzani was this:

 

- Mr. Barzani shares the same perspective as us... This issue cannot be solved solely by means of military might or force... Ankara is trying to solve the issue with an approach that puts dismantling the PKK at the center, but the issue is not as simple as this. A democratic solution and dialogue is required... Barzani is ready to work towards this...

 

What about the cancellation of President Abdullah Gul's visit to Iraq and Arbil, how do you assess this?

 

- We had expected this to happen because President Gul's visit could be assessed to have different meanings... That is why we think it was cancelled...

 

Let me inform of the most important part of the meeting with Barzani, after giving some brief information...

 

A worldwide Kurdish Conference...

 

Turk said, they agreed with Barzani for the organization of a "Kurdish conference".

 

What does this mean?

 

An international "Kurdish conference" led by Barzani and DTP would signal a new era...Â

 

In other words, it means a "conference" in the axis of the regional countries, northern Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey...

 

Barzani is positive about organizing the conference, Turk says.

 

It is planned to be held in a European country, and the attention of the entire world will be focused here.

 

TWO BASIC CALLS

Two basic calls are expected to be made at the conference, according to the information provided by Turk:

 

1) The right for Kurds to express themselves and their identities...

 

2) The call for the PKK to lay down their arms, if the first assurance is given...

 

Of course there more topics that are going to be discussed...

 

Another dimension of this important development lies in the question of:

 

- How much Ankara is prepared for such a development?

 

- How to prevent this conference from becoming a PKK show?

 

In conclusion, DTP is a party with representation in the Turkish parliament, while Barzani is the leader of the Federal Kurdish administration...

 

This low-key meeting held during Eid al-Adha is very important, regardless of which perspective you look at it.

 

What is more, this is a very serious issue for Ankara in the coming term.
