The intensity of the question that asks, "What will happen to Mosul and Kirkuk during the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region?" is gradually rising in Ankara.
Haberin Devamı
- Will they leave it to the power of the ruling Kurdish regional administration in northern Iraq?
Â
Therefore, the planned visit of Turkey’s president, Abdullah Gul, is crucial in getting answers to these questions. In response to a question about why it is:
Â
- It is because the same game is being played time and time again and it is coming to the stage one more time...
Â
For, example Turkey ended its claims on Mosul in 1926.
Â
Yet it was a strange coincidence that oil was discovered in this province in 1927. Of course, it was previously known that an oil reserve was there, but, this information was kept secret until Turkey ended its claims. Britain was ruling Iraq at that time, and now it's the United States.
Â
NO DEMOCRACY IF POSSIBLE
The situation is more interesting this time around because a Kurdish administration is being established there, and both Mosul and Kirkuk is being left to the dominance of this administration. Things always follow the same pattern in the Middle East; first you find a Sheikh or a king to share the oil profits with you. No democracy is preferable if possible. In other words, the Sheikh or king will stay in power continuously and the public will obey him... This is why all Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, are examples of non-democratic oil sheikhdoms. Thus, Massoud Barzani, the leader of regional administration in northern Iraq is important in this region.
Â
He also desires to be one of these sheiks working in harmony with the dominant powers and sharing oil profits with them. He promised this...
Â
What he has said is this;
Â
- Don't worry there will not be any elections here. The Barzani family will always be here. I will serve you as long as the oil exploration continues.
Â
BARZARNI, THE SHEIKH OF THE GULF
Many of the most influential names of the Turkish government have already begun to make this evaluation. Barzani's plan, before becoming a Gulf sheikh, has drawn attention... In other words, Mosul-Kerkuk, declared as a red line three years ago by former foreign minister, Abdullah Gul, the current president of Turkey, is part of this plan. The birth records in the region and the local administrations are all being set up to achieve this aim.Â
Â
Gul's visit is very important because the one thing known for certain by Ankara is this:
Â
- A new ruling power is being formed in the region. And despite the appearance of being tied to the central Iraqi government; it is a separate Kurdish administration that continues policies supporting its own interests.
Â
- This administration has promised its dependence not to Baghdad, but to United States. This is the point where its expectations for Mosul and Kirkuk are founded.
Â
Therefore, the messages Gul delivers during his visit to Baghdad and Kirkuk should be assessed from this aspect.
