ISTANBUL - Expat students in Istanbul are starting dodge ball tournaments and hot dog stands to build schools for kids half a world away. Another group raised enough money, and books, to build a school library in İzmir that was completed this week. Dozens of projects are going on at the Istanbul International Community School where service learning is part of the curriculum

In a conference to outline their plans against 'devastation' of their beloved town near the Mediterranean city of Antalya, volunteers criticize renovation work in the historic square and the construction of a new marina.
Last Sunday afternoon I was browsing an online slideshow of I.M. Pei’s newly finished Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar. With each click, I was greeted with stunning photographs of the architect's rising stack of elegant blocks, marooned on a man-made island reachable only by bridge. I.M. Pei buildings, even the shorter ones, always have a sense of expansion and volume and the Museum of Islamic Art is no exception.
