ISTANBUL - Polemic erupts between a local environmental agency and the Forestry Directorate after the agency claims training exercises by fire fighting planes resulted in the deaths of thousands of birds near Lake Bafa. The directorate denies such exercises were carried out at all while the agency says it was local villagers that informed it in the first place
KARS - As debate continues about opening the border between Turkey and Armenia, which would be a great step toward normalizing relations between the two countries, scientists are concerned about the area's untouched wildlife. Increased traffic across the border opening may bring more danger for this major migratory bird habitat and its globally endangered bird species
ANTALYA - The mating season of the caretta carettas, an endangered species of sea turtle, came early this year. Köyceğiz County’s Çandır Village is near Lake Alagöl, one of the caretta caretta mating grounds, just at the opposite shore of Dalyan Canal. It was reported that the caretta carettas will lay eggs 15 days earlier this year.
ADANA - Thousands of sea turtles will feel the help of their 'families,' who they will never meet, through the efforts of the World Wildlife Fund and the Ministry of Forestry. Volunteers can participate to the project and adopt an endangered sea turtle by donating just YTL 10.
ISTANBUL - Bring out the rebel – take a romantic long weekend or a much deserved week off before the dark rainy blues set in. As a resident of Turkey, you hardly find the bustle of crowded southern resorts appealing. Çıralı is arguably one of Turkey’s most special – and undiscovered – beach towns. People come from all over the world to stay in modest bungalows along the pristine two-mile Olympos Beach, which is 90 kilometers from Antalya.
