Edip Sönmez / İstanbul, March 1 (DHA) - Russia and China vetoe sanctions to be imposed on Syria, on a bid voted in UN Security Council.

United Nations Security Council on Tuesday voted whether or not to impose sanctions on Syrian government over the accusations of chemical weapon usage during the six years of civil war in the country.

Drafted by Britain, France and the United States, the measure on Tuesday won nine votes in favour, while three countries - China, Russia and Bolivia - opposed it.

Russian side stated that such a proposal to impose sanction on Syria would harm the peace talks ongoing in Geneva, criticising France and Britain who offered the draft.
The veto was Russia's seventh, while it was the sixth by China over sanctions proposed against Syria.
