Ceyda Tanc Dance performs ‘AY/NA’ in Turkey’s İzmir"

İstanbul, Sep 20 (DHA) – Ceyda Tanc Dance company is visiting Turkey for another performance ‘AY/NA’, a performance consists of of two previous performances ‘AYIN’ and ‘KINA’.
Ceyda Tanc Dance company produce dynamic contemporary dance works with influence of traditional Turkish folk dance. Utilising virtuoso movements of the male Turkish dancers on female bodies, a unique movement vocabulary is created, which conveys striking shapes and an emotive and sensual energy.
Ceyda Tanc is a British-Turkish choreographer creating contemporary dance work influenced by the traditional dances of her heritage. Drawing on the virtuoso movements of male Turkish dancers, a unique movement vocabulary is created, conveying striking shapes and an emotive, sensual energy.
Ceyda Tanc was invited to spend four months at The State Turkish Conservatoire for Music and Folk Dance in Izmir, after graduating from the University of Roehampton with a BA Dance Studies in 2011, Tanc has trained in traditional Turkish folk dance, including Zeybek and Denizli, the dance styles of her heritage. Whilst in Izmir, she taught contemporary dance workshops to degree students, youth companies and dance teachers.
In 2012, Tanc founded Ceyda Tanc Dance, creating a body of contemporary dance works with influences from Turkish folk culture. Her work has been shown at numerous platforms and festivals across the UK, including several sold-out solo programmes of work at Brighton Fringe Festival. In 2013, Tanc was commissioned by University of Roehampton to collaborate with MA students at Royal Academy of Music. In 2014, Tanc was invited to bring a company of artists to Turkey to tour a triple bill at theatres and universities nationally, take part in traditional Turkish folk dance classes and teach contemporary and repertory classes.
As an independent choreographer, Tanc has been commissioned to create works on students at University of Roehampton, University of Chichester, and colleges across the South East, as well as professional network, Hull Dance. Additionally making work for Lewes College Dance Company and Kingston Youth Dance, and being awarded a commission for MOTUS festival 2015. Since 2012 Tanc has directed a successful youth dance company, reaching the finals of YDE's U.Dance festival 2013 and 2015, and personally invited by Richard Alston to perform alongside his company in Brighton. Tanc runs a successful programme of contemporary technique classes in Brighton at several dance academies, schools and colleges and is an Associate Lecturer at University of Chichester. Tanc has been an Associate Artist at The Point, Eastleigh since May 2016.
