Adem Yazıcı / Ankara, Oct 4 (DHA) – "Adaptation to Climate Change with Rain Harvest" Project actualised by Çankaya Municipality, Landscape Research Association (PAD) and Portugal Humane World Association (AMH), has won EU and Turkey Civil Society Dialogue – IV Environmental Grant Program. The first conference of the program has realised.
“Local Solutions to Climate Change: Rain Harvest” titled conference was attended by, EU Delegation to Turkey, Head of Economic and Social Development Section François Begeot, PAD President Professor Dr. Hakan Alphani, Çankaya Municipality Deputy Mayors Gülsün Bor Güner and Anıl Sevinç. Drawing the attention of non-governmental organisations working on ecology and natural life, the sittings on the first day of the conference were "Adaptation to Climate Change and Local Administrations" and "Rain Harvest and Model Implementations."
Çankaya Municipality Deputy Mayor Gülsün Bor Günersaid in her opening speech, “Consumption, imposed by dominant world system, is destroying every aspect of life. Industrialisation and urbanisation had a huge impact on nature. Covering nature with concrete is causing the city’s to become graveyards. We, as Çankaya Municipality are aware of the fact that we are obliged to bestow a healthy environment and conditions to all kinds of livings.”
On the first sitting of the conference Professor Dr. Ali Gökmen has moderated "Adaptation to Climate Change and Local Administrations" panel with the attendants, Professor Dr. Mikdat Kadıoğlu from İstanbul Technical University, Professor Dr. Ayşen Yılmaz from Middle East Technical University, Dr. Nuran Talu from Global Balance Association and Associate Professor Barış Karapınar from TEMA Foundation. Experiences of local admistrations on adapting climate changes were discussed.
On the first sitting of the conference Associate professor Erhan Akça has moderated "Rain Harvest and Model Implementations" panel with the attendants, Çankaya Municipality Deputy Mayor Anıl Sevinç, from Civil and Ecological Rights Association (SEHAK) Dr. Akgün İlhan, representing the Project associate AMH Christoph Ulbig, and from Buğday (wheat) Ecological Life Supporting Organisation Emre Rona. Planned work was discussed citing Odemira projects.
