While heated debates continue regarding the listeners of Pavarotti, who are being described by some as ‘unpatriotic’ and ‘sacrilegious’, preparations are underway for a celebratory memorial service to be held in the Istanbul office of the Vatican. Italian musician Guiseppe Donizetti, was the first man to start up a Turkish brass band in the 19th century, introducing Turkey to western music. The memorial service to mark his 150 years anniversary, will take place on Sunday February 12, by Giuseppe Donizetti’s grave at the Saint-Esprit Cathedral, which serves as the Istanbul office of the Papacy. The Vatican Ambassador, Georges Marovitch, asked the 1st military corps’ Commanding office to send a brass band to show their presence at the ceremony.
