Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has declared that Turkey is to command two new military missions in Afghanistan. The PM Erdoğan declared in a message dispatched in commemoration of Turkey’s 54th year as member of NATO: “We will be holding the commanding position at the Kabul Headquarters of the Brigade of the Multinational Peace Force of South-east Europe of which we are a founding member for a six-month period as of the end of this month. Turkey will also be running the Kabul Regional Commandership for a two year period beginning in August 2006, in partnership with Italy and France.”
