ISTANBUL - Perhaps it’s time for a new word to enter the Turkish vocabulary, if it hasn’t already Ğ brunçlamak (to brunch). Purists will shudder but the custom of eating brunch, the meal that combines breakfast and lunch, has been growing in popularity as a way to start a Sunday in a happy way. Five-star hotels introduced the practice and it has spread.
Now there’s a special treat in store for brunch-lovers. The Çırağan Palace Kempinski is now serving brunches prepared by French Chef Olivier Chaleil that combine classical European and Turkish tastes under the rubric of "Classical." Brunches are especially designed for individuals and for families with children. There are buffet tables just the right size for youngsters, special desserts and activities to keep them busy.
Classical European tastes range from Eggs Benedict served with Alaskan King crab to foie gras terrine. Those who love seafood will find octopus, shrimp, salmon caviar, mussels and a sushi bar.
