ISTANBUL - Istanbul offers many options for those who want to celebrate the New Year dancing, singing, eating and drinking. The New Year’s Eve will most definitely be colorful in the city with an event for every budget from a YTL 50 casual gathering to a YTL 3,650 extravaganza.
Popular addresses for Istanbul nightlife offer various options for those who want to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the city. Aside from concerts and parties, the New Year train, the "Uzunkum Express" is an alternative for those who want to do something different this year. The train will greet passengers at Haydarpaşa Station, the historic train station on the Asian side of Istanbul, with live music, wine and roasted chestnuts.
Dinner will be served in the restaurant car as the train heads to Uzunkum Station where a large fire will be lit on the lakeside. The return trip will include a stop at Hereke for a walk along the docks and for a drink of boza, a drink made of slightly fermented millet. The train will arrive back at Haydarpaşa at dawn. This New Year’s alternative is priced at YTL 195.
Another New Year’s party will be held at Haydarpaşa, featuring Turkish pop music by DJs, shows by drag queens and live bands, for YTL 60. A stand for six people is priced at YTL 600.
There are many alternatives to celebrate the New Year with live Turkish pop music, such as the Mahzar-Fuat-Özkan trio at Suada for YTL 120 to 150, Serdar Ortaç at the Hilton Convention Center for YTL 161, or you can book a front table for 10 for YTL 3,650. The Maslak Efendy Show Theater is presenting a "New Year Carnival" featuring live Turkish pop for YTL 130 and Kaya Ramada Plaza will add oriental dance to their live music program for YTL 199.You can stay at the Holiday Inn Istanbul Airport and attend the party at the North Club with a DJ performance and an oriental dance show for YTL 315.
For those who enjoy Turkish rock music, Teoman will take the stage at Studio Live, tickets are priced at YTL 56. Jolly Joker Balans will feature three live bands, Anemi, Velvet and Why Nut for YTL 34. Çubuklu Hayal Kahvesi will feature popular modern rock band Manga, supported by DJs playing rock, pop and Latin music for YTL 84.
The Dolapdere Big Gang ensemble which covers famous foreign pop and rock hits in a Turkish style will perform in an oriental show at Yeni Melek Gösteri Merkezi with Luxus in support. The program also features popular Balkan music played by DJs for YTL 65 to 85, or reservation for groups of five for the front of stage is YTL 600.
Jazz fans can enjoy the last night of the year at Nardis Jazz Club with famous performers Engin Recepoğulları, Önder Focan, Erdal Akyol, Cem Aksel and Valeria Proano on stage for YTL 50.
Electronic music party
For electronic music fans, the program at the Maslak Sheraton Hotel featuring DJ’s Milk&Sugar, Hüseyin Karadayı, Suat Ateşdağlı, Funky, Emrah İş, Murat Uncuoğlu and Tarkan is an option. Attendance is YTL 50 to 80 and there are special reservations available for groups of six for YTL 500 or for groups of eight to 10, YTL 1,000 to 1,500. DJs Tarkan, Murat Uncuoğlu, U.F.U.K, Cure-Shot, Tangun, Fuchs and Hassa will be playing at Maslak Refresh The Venue for an entrance fee of YTL 40 to 70.
For those who prefer nostalgia, R&B and hip hop, Riddim Club features three parties on its three floors for one ticket of YTL 30; Matmazel & Kungfu at Riddim Live, "Everybody Loves Oldies Party 70s, 80s, 90s" at Riddim Special and Hip Hop R&B Party with DJ Volkan Kutmen-B & DJ Ice at Riddim R&B.
Another nostalgia music event will be held at Babylon, the "Oldies but Goldies" party where popular songs from a period spanning 40 years will be played. Entrance is YTL 55. The Bronx club has also organized an 80s party for YTL 23.
