ISTANBUL - Next month sees the launch of a nine-month-long program in France called the "Season of Turkey." Starting July 1 and running through March 31, the event incorporates 16 categories, plus a special night organized for Turkey’s sole Nobel laureate, Orhan Pamuk, in Paris’ famous Odeon Theater.
ISTANBUL - In Ottoman times caftans were robes not just worn every day but for special occasions such as religious ceremonies or special audiences such as those with foreign ambassadors. The Ottoman sultans’ caftans were open in the front with slashed sides and fur linings, pockets, long sleeves and buttons of precious stones. The wearing of sumptuous robes with elaborate designs has long been the sign of rank and power.
