Some deem it a weak possibility as it is too late in the legal sense to open a case against the perpetrators of the 1980 military coup because of the time passed.
ISTANBUL - Since 1971 there have been attempts to reopen the Halki Theological Seminary on Istanbul’s Heybeliada and while the appeals have not fallen on deaf ears, various reasons have been put forward as to why it should not be reopened. Successive Turkish governments have argued that reopening Halki would lead the way to applications for Muslim universities, even though Muslim seminaries were never opened before. However, the current education minister has said he can see no reason why it cannot be reopened

Turkish Cypriots celebrated on Sunday the "Peace and Freedom Day" in the 34th anniversary of Cyprus Peace and Freedom Operation. A Turkish delegation led by Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan also attended the celebrations in Nicosia. (UPDATED)
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and the leader of Turkish Cypriots stressed a solution of the Cyprus issue should base on the principle of "two equal states and two equal communities." Erdogan and Mehmet Ali Talat also expressed their hopes that the meeting of Cyprus leaders in July 25 would mark the beginning of comprehensive negotiations. (UPDATED)
