ISTANBUL - A document purportedly proving there is no ban keeping the head of Turkey’s media watchdog from entering Germany is a fake, the private news channel CNNTürk reported yesterday.
Zahid Akman, the head of the Supreme Board of Radio and Television, or RTÜK, was allegedly involved in the German Lighthouse e.V. charity fraud case. Last year, claims were made that Akman was banned from entering Germany, leading his lawyer Ali Yıldız to disclose a document from the Main Taunus Foreigners’ Directorate showing that no such restriction had been made. When CNNTürk contacted the directorate and asked to see the original document, the request was declined. However, the directorate agreed to examine the document. As a result of its examination, the directorate determined the document is not authentic and advised the news agency to apply to the prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt.
