Ruling Justice and Development party AKP declared its 293 candidates for local polls, in a press conference Thursday. AKP leader and Prime Minister P.M. Erdogan said that they are determined to win the March 28th local polls. However There was no woman candidates for the mayoral posts in 61 provinces. Of the candidates for 824 township, only 3 were woman. These were: Nesibe Ors for the Dikili town of Izmir, Asuman Topkara for the Yaluhuyuk town of Konya and Nazmiye Kabadayi for the Dogankent town of Giresum. Erdogan announced AKP’S candidates for 21 provinces and about 300 townships, thus determining 2938 candidates out of a total of 3252. The party left its decision for such metropolitan cities as Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir, to February 24. Erdogan also said, “Hand-in-hand with people, not looking from “Ivory towers”, we are sailing to a bright future.”
