SİİRT - The ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP's, mayoral candidate for the province of Siirt in southeastern Turkey said he knew nothing about municipal governance but was willing to learn, according to his own public admission Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference with AKP’s Siirt deputies Yılmaz Helvacıoğlu and Afif Demirkıran and provincial party boss, Bayram Kızılay, the candidate for the March 29 local elections, Kasım Ceylan said: "As of now, I know nothing about municipal government, but I will learn soon enough. If I become the mayor, I will resign if anyone talks bad about me. Let everyone be assured that I will fully perform my duties if I am elected." Demirkıran said it was Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan who had picked Ceylan, adding that he was sure the AKP would win the Siirt mayoral post.
