Widow of fallen soldier sues PM Erdogan for 1 YTL

Reverberations continue this week to last week's comment by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's that Turkish military service was not a time to expect to come and "lie down on your side." One such reaction has come to light with a case taken out by the wife of Gendarme Sergeant Murat Ozturk, who was killed in a clash with PKK terrorists last year.

Yasemine Ozturk, Sergeant Murat Ozturk's wife, is suing PM Erdogan for the symbolic amount of just 1 YTL for spiritual damage inflicted by his comment. The widow of Sergeant Ozturk applied for the damages at the Criminal Court in Ankara, where she noted that Erdogan's comments had elicited angry and hurt reactions from those close to soldiers killed by PKK forces, as well as from other civilians and civil organizations.
