TEKİRDAĞ - Turkey’s northwestern city of Tekirdağ will host the St. Beeswax Exhibition on Jan. 15. The exhibition will open at Tekira Shopping Mall, and display 47 beeswax statues, said Jale Kuşhan from the organization committee.
Kuşhan said the committee had opened in other Turkish cities, and added: "Tekirdağ is the 37th city. This region is really interested in art. Statues in the exhibition are made by 8 Ğ 15 people and completed in three months. Real hair and prosthesis eyes that are used for people are used on the wax works. The exhibition also includes wax models made by Ryssian artists 50 years ago. One of them is the Russian Tsar Peter the Great. The creators of these models are not alive anymore."
Wax works are fragile
She said it was very hard to open such an exhibition in various places because the pieces were very fragile. "Their arms and legs can be broken while being moved. They always need restoration. This is why we want to open a permanent exhibition in Istanbul or Ankara."
The exhibition includes wax models of famous people, including one of
Atatürk while speaking at the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 1935 and another of Fatih Sultan the conqueror. There are models of Russian author Dostoevsky, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator and Sheikh Şamil. Other figures include the legendary band The Beatles, El Farabi, Napoleon, Leonardo da Vinci, Ivan Ilyc, Hürrem Sultan, French diplomat and spy D’eon, who lived the first half of his life as a man and the second half as a woman, Osman Gazi; Ottoman sultan Sultan Süleyman, pop music artist Tarkan and comedians Kemal Sunal and Levent Kırca.
The exhibition will be open for the next two months from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for 4 to 5 Turkish lira.
