Turks in Germany win right to vote in national elections

Turks living in Germany can vote in Turkey’s upcoming national election thanks to Hürriyet newspaper. For years expat Turks have been denied the right to vote for leaders in their home country by German authorities citing national security concerns.

In a recent interview, Hürriyet asked Germany’s Minister of the Interior, Wolfgang Schauble, if he supported the ban. Schauble has since said that if Turkey pays for holding the elections in Germany, Turks living there would have the full support of the German government to vote.
