A 65-year-old Turkish woman, Hatun Koc, has died of Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever after being bit by a tick in central Sivas on Tuesday, according to the Anatolian Agency. Sources reported that the woman was hospitalized for four days following the bite, and although doctors were able to remove the tick from here body and exert all efforts to save her, it wasn't enough. But she could not be saved despite all the efforts deployed by the physicians. Executives from centrally located Cumhurriyet University Hospital, Sivas, stated that 100 people have been hospitalized from the fever, and noted that 92 of them were discharged, bringing the total number of deaths from Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic to eight so far. Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a tick-borne disease that occurs in the Crimea and in parts of Africa, Europe and Asia. It can also be spread by contact with infected animals, and in healthcare settings. Sudden severe headache, chills, fever, vomiting and pain in muscles, the lower back and the upper abdomen are the commonest symptoms. Petechial hemorrhages are seen 3-5 days after symptoms appear. Only intensive care will save the most severely ill patients.Â
