Riot police fired tear-gas canisters to disperse nearly 150 demonstrators, who gathered in front of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP) building, Dogan News Agency reported.

The protesters also chanted anti-government slogans, it added.Â

Tensions rose in the region after some deputies from the DTP claimed that Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the terror organization PKK, has been mistreated in Imrali prison, where he is serving a life sentence.

The government has denied the allegations.
