ISTANBUL - Turkey’s production and export figures may have declined but figures from other countries have displayed much sharper drops, said Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
"The crisis will by-pass the country. Turkey will overcome this period with minimum damage," Erdoğan said, speaking on Friday in Eskişehir, northwestern Turkey.
Worsening conditions, such as rising unemployment and falling capacity utilization, have not been enough to deter Erdoğan from standing his ground, as he repeatedly tells crowds the crisis will "by-pass the country."
During the meeting held by the Eskişehir Entrepreneur Industrialists and Businesspeople Association, or EGSİAD, Erdoğan reiterated that TV stations and newspapers continued to maintain an approach to exploit the global crisis.
"No one is taking it seriously when I say the crisis will ’by-pass’ us. Let them laugh. I say Turkey will outlive this crisis with minimum damage," he said.
There also are some businessmen who have managed to increase their company’s revenues five-fold during the crisis, said Erdoğan. "Profit and loss go hand in hand. You should be stockpiling with that in mind," he said. "However, if some start to act as doomsayers, it would be impossible to prevent distress."
