Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has been declared a "honorary freeman" of the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
Tehran Mayor Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Monday that they decided to award Prime Minister Erdogan with the title of freeman of Tehran for his speech and reaction against the Israeli offensive during a panel discussion held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland last week.
Addressing Erdogan, Ghalibaf said, "Your dignified and courageous attitude against occupiers of Jerusalem pleased all people favoring freedom and free thought. You displayed with your noble attitude that the prime minister of Turkey cannot remain silent against the killing of defenseless children, women and the elderly."
Ghalibaf thanked Erdogan on behalf of the Iranian people.Â
Meanwhile, student's unions and non-governmental organizations laid wreaths at the Turkish Embassy in Tehran in an expression of sympathy to Erdogan.
