BOSTON - The 13th Boston Turkish Culture and Art Festival, which started in 1996 and runs every year from the Oct. 29 Republic Holiday to the middle of December, has ended.

This year's festival held more than 40 events including exhibitions around the theme the "Colors of Anatolia," book promotions, concerts, documentary and short film screenings and the promotion of Turkish foods and wines.

Festival director Erkut Gömülü said the festival had become a tradition in Boston and they would continue to organize events to show Turkey’s cultural richness and variety in the coming years.

As part of this year’s festival, a Turkish flag was hoisted Oct. 29, the day the festival began, in the Boston Municipal Area. The program "Anatolia: A Crossroads of Flavors," which introduced Turkish foods, was organized in collaboration with the food and wine program of the Boston University. Various tastes from Anatolian cuisine, accompanied by Kavaklıdere wines, were offered to Americans. Famous Turkish clarinet artist Hüsnü Şenlendirici performed a concert at the Massachusetts College of Art with New York Gypsy All-Stars Band.

Artist Elif Soyer’s solo painting exhibition "Look In" was opened at the Thurman Center; and another exhibition "The Colors of Anatolia" was opened at the Newton Public Library. Both exhibitions received great interest from art lovers.

The final event of the festival was a documentary and short film competition that was held a few weeks ago.

The 14th Boston Turkish Culture and Art Festival will be held from Oct. 29 to Dec. 18, 2009. Festival organizers said it was a great pleasure that most of the visitors to the festival this year were Americans.
