ANKARA - Building contractors’ business volume will reach $50 billion within the next three years, predicted State Minister Zafer Çağlayan.

Addressing contractors at the "Those Who Build the World" conference, Çağlayan said: "We know how strong you are. We will provide an infrastructure so that you can meet your real potential."

Turkish contractors have made a name for themselves around the globe, the minister said, noting that there are 23 Turkish contracting companies on the world list of top 225 contractors.

The industry’s troubles will be laid on the table at next week’s Economy Coordination Council meeting, Çağlayan said. Issues such as the social-security troubles of Turkish workers abroad will be discussed, he added.

"In order to reach a volume of $50 billion in building contractors’ business, we have to solve the letter-of-guarantee issue," Çağlayan said.

India plans to implement infrastructure investments worth $500 billion over the next 10 years, while Indonesia’s plans for the next five years include infrastructure investments worth $50 billion. "We can benefit from all these markets," the minister said. "We will organize business trips to several countries to get ourselves situated in various countries around the world. So pack your bags, and say goodbye to your wives."
