Turkeys export figures hit record monthly high up 34.4 pct for May

Turkey's exports in May increased 34.4 percent compared to the same term in 2007 and reached a total of $12.2 billion, an all time monthly high, Oguz Satici, chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) said on Sunday in a press conference held in Turkey's eastern province, Ardahan. According to the figures released by Satici, Turkish exports within the last 12 months reached $120 billion, an increase of 28.4 percent compared to the previous 12-month term.

"The amount of exports for May increase by 34.4 percent and hit a record high totaling $12.2 billion compared to the same term in 2007" Satici said.

According to Satici, Turkey's exports between January and May increased by 36.6 percent compared to the same term last year and reached $55.7 billion.

State Minister Kursad Tuzmen who also attended the conference said the enormous efforts are continuing in Turkey to secure the country’s position as a serious exporting country, the Anatolian Agency reported.

"We give great importance to border trade in order to advance Turkey as a serious exporting country. We paid a visit to Iran with an entourage of 100 Turkish businessmen and had talks regarding these issues. We are planning to transfer world trade between these regions," Tuzmen was quoted as saying by the Anatolian Agency.
