ISTANBUL - Agaoglu Energy, a branch of Turkey’s largest group of companies operating in construction, tourism, service and energy sectors, aims to construct plants capable of producing 1,000 megawatt of energy in over 3-years, the company said on Thursday.
Agaoglu Group will invest 1.2 billion euro in energy over the next three years and will establish plants producing 1,000 megawatts of energy, Murat Onuk, the chairman of Agaoglu Group's energy branch, said in a statement.
Â
The company aims to differentiate between the energy types and form a balanced energy portfolio, and targets numbering among the top 10 private energy companies in the country by 2015, Onuk said.
Â
The construction of a 34 megawatt power wind plant in Turkey's southern province of Mersin has started, he said.
Â
The wind turbine project, which will be located in Mersin province, is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2010 and is estimated to provide sufficient energy for some 18,000 homes.ÂÂ
Onuk added that Agaoglu Energy was in the process of acquiring licenses for several other wind turbine plants in northwestern Canakkale, Bursa, Kocaeli and Yalova provinces, as well as for two hydroelectric power plants in the eastern province of Bingol capable of producing 60 megawatts of power.  Â
