ISTANBUL - Slovenian President Danilo Türk’s visit became an opportunity to address Turkish demands towards the EU.

Speaking at the Turkish-Slovenian Business Forum, M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, the chairman of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, said the alternatives to full EU membership that have been offered to Turkey are unacceptable and asked Slovenia to support the opening of more chapters. Hisarcıklıoğlu added that the need for Turkish businessmen to obtain EU visas has become a serious obstacle for commercial relations.

Replying to those remarks, Türk said a customs union is not a sufficient tool to strengthen economic ties; instead, he said, a different platform of cooperation is needed.
