ANKARA - Turkey called on neighboring Iran on Wednesday to resolve its post-election political crisis "in the shortest possible time," stressing regional stability.
"We are confident that the disputes will be settled in a satisfactory manner in the shortest possible time," foreign ministry spokesman Burak Ozugergin told a press conference.
Â
Turkey believes "Iran has the ability to debate its problems by keeping open the channels for seeking ones rights and hopes that the process will contribute to improving democratic institutions in Iran," he said.
Â
"Iran is a very important country for us, not only bilaterally, but also with respect to regional stability," he added.
Â
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Wednesday the regime will not "back down" in the face of protests -- some of them deadly -- that have rocked Tehran over disputed presidential election earlier this month.
