Turkey to convene IAC to up foreign investment in June

Turkey's Investment Advisory Council is to bring the heads of several multinational companies as well as top officials from the IMF and the World Bank together on June 18, in an effort to draw more foreign investment into country, said in a Turkish Treasury statement on Wednesday.

Turkey's Investment Advisory Council would convene on June 18 for the fifth time under the chairmanship of Erdogan, the Treasury statement said. 

 

Policies carried out in line with council recommendations made at previous meetings played a significant role in Turkey's historical performance to draw foreign direct investments over the past few years, the statement added.

 

High level executives of 18 multinational companies --with a total $755 billion in turnover around the glove last year-- as well as IMF First Deputy Managing Director John Lipsky and Vice President of the World Bank Graeme Wheeler are scheduled to attend the council meeting. Four leading business associations of Turkey will also attend the meeting in Istanbul.

Alshaya, American International Group (AIG), Cisco Systems, Citi, Danone Group, Eldorado Gold Corporation, Fiat SpA, Finmeccanica SpA, Hyundai Motor Company, Indesit Company SpA, ISCAR Ltd., ITOCHU Corporation, MANGO, Nortel Networks Corporation, Novartis International AG, Nunhems B.V., Toyota Motor Corporation, Unicredit Group were the companies to be represented at the meeting, the Treasury said.

 

The council was established in 2004 to improve the investment climate in Turkey and scale up Turkey as an attractive country for investment.
