ISTANBUL - The accession process to the European Union should be the foreign policy priority this year, revealed a recent survey conducted among representatives of the Turkish business community abroad.

Representatives of the Turkish business community abroad believe Turkish lobbying is not effective in the world according to 75.8 percent of the survey’s participants.

The Foreign Economic Relations Board conducted the survey among Turkish business people who participated in the two-day World Turkish Entrepreneurs Convention. Of more than 2,000 business people who participated in the convention, 233 took part in the survey, 173 of whom live abroad. Some 44.9 percent said there is a stable image of Turkey’s economy and Turkish products.

Some 37.7 said there is a positive image of Turkish products, while 19.4 percent disagreed arguing that the image of Turkish products is negative. The survey showed that the level of cooperation is low among the Turkish business people active abroad. Some 54.2 percent said there is no joint action within the Turkish business community abroad while 22.9 percent said there is enough cooperation. Nearly half of those questioned said the activities of Turkish official representations abroad should be widened.
