Eurostat, the European Union's statistics institution, has announced that Istanbul is Europe's most crowded city with a population of 9,898,000 people.

Istanbul tops the list of 26 European cities with populations exceeding one million, Anatolian Agency reported Tuesday citing the research.�

Three Turkish cities are among Europe's most crowded cities with Ankara ranking forth at 3,402,000 and Izmir ranking ninth with a population of 2,387,000.

A total of 65 million people live in Europe's 26 biggest cities.�
