An article entitled "Dogs are reproducing while animal lovers march" that was printed in the April issue of the Turkey Police Magazine had elicited a strong reaction from animal lovers across the country. The article, among other points, suggests that the only solution to the problem of street dogs in Turkey is their slaughter, and that their meat could be sold to the Far East for consumption.
It also reserves harsh criticism for animal activism in Turkey, saying "These animal lovers, who come up with no permanent solution to the problems at hand, have now marched for the new Animal Rights Bill in Ankara......But don't be overjoyed, they still have no solutions."
The article in the Police Magazine also suggests that the sterilization program supported by animal lovers in Turkey is too time-consuming and expensive, and that there is really only one solution to the problem of the dogs which roam the streets:
"The sterilization program is a very time consuming one, and very expensive as well. And since we can't force families to take in these dogs and look after them, there is only one other solution; that is by way of painless slaughter. Municipalities have been in accordance with this idea for a long time now. But the problem is convincing the animal lovers. They prefer gathering up the street animals and putting them into group prisons."
