"Not only developing but also developed countries may be affected by rising oil prices," Guler said in a speech at the 8th International Energy Arena on Tomorrow's Strategy in Natural Gas, in Istanbul.

Guler underlined the importance of other energy resources such as wind, solar, water, geothermal and energy efficiency, and said that Turkey will make greater use of these resources.

The energy minister also said that Turkey was working on new projects on energy independence that might be an example for other countries.

Organized by the Strategic Technical Economic Research Center of Turkey, the meeting aims to bring together local and international authorities and experts to discuss the issues relating to natural gas.
