Turkey loses ticket to 2006 World Cup finals

The Turkish national football team last night lost its chance to go to the World Cup finals in Germany in 2006. Facing off against Switzerland in the second of two qualifying matches, the Turkish team played a strong game, beating the Swiss team 4-2, just one goal short of the final score necessary to allow the Turkish team to go forward.
The match was played at Fenerbahce's Sukru Saracoglu stadium, and was watched by millions throughout Turkey who expected their their team to pull through at the final moment. Much criticism following the match was directed towards the football fans present, who organizers and commentators alike blamed for unsportmanlike behavior towards the visiting Swiss team.
