Turkey looses due to conflict btw judiciary, executive

A recent rise in tension between executive and judicial bodies is unfortunate for Turkey as the impacts of the global economic crisis started to be felt more deeply, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) said in a statement.

Both bodies should use their authority in line with the Constitution and either should interfere in each other's authorization, TOBB added in the written statement released on Saturday.        Â

"Turkey could face a serious economic loss due to higher tension between judicial and executive bodies. Moreover neither of us benefit from the ongoing conflict," the statement said. Therefore Turkey should end the complete and focus to economy as soon as possible, it added.  Â

 

The Supreme Court made a harsh statement last week to criticize the government, whose response sparked a new conflict between the executive and judicial bodies. The Court accused the government of creating a "judiciary controlled by an executive body." Ruling AKP slammed the statement saying the high courts lost their neutrality and independence by making political statements.Â

"Turkey should form its long term and speedy economic growth and focus on the solutions of the issues such as unemployment, and other economical and social problems without loosing any time," TOBB said in the statement.  Â

 

High unemployment and huge unregistered activity remain a major challenge for the Turkey despite several years of strong growth in the wake of severe financial crisis in early 2000s.

 

Turkey’s unemployment rate increased to 11.6 percent at the end of February revealing a 0.2 percent rise compared to the same period last year. The number unemployment of increased by 55,000 people to reach 2,642,000, according to the official figures released by Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK). Â
