A new Turkish novel called "American Is Ours", will go on sale this weekend across the country and is expected to top the best-seller list. The newest addition to the recent trend/genre of anti-American fiction being published is a story of how a group of Turkish nationalists and some alien friends invade the US. The cover of the book depicts the Statue of Liberty wearing a handlebar mustache and the US flag's stars are replaced by the triple-crescent symbol of the Turkish far-right. The story begins with an alien appearing while a young Turkish nationalists is saying his prayers, the alien grants the young Turk a wish, the wish is to invade America which becomes possible when the alien gives the young Turk a machine that controls the minds of US citizens. It is a tongue-in-cheek take on how the US could become Turkish. Madonna is turned into a belly dancer and Turkish parties are held at the White House. It isn't all fun and games as the Turks bring their problems with them to the new land, failures in the health care system and a dying economy due to mismanagement are just some of the problems of a Turkish-run America. The writer is a first time novelist called Ekmeci, 27 years-old, from Istanbul. Ekmeci stressed that the book really holds turks to a kind of "self-criticism" rather than any anti-American stance. Â
