As Brussels listened to and watched with interest the resounding cry from Istanbul's sea of protestors in Caglayan Square on Sunday afternoon, Joost Lagendijk, the co-President of the Turkey-EU Mixed Commission commented yesterday "I watched with surprise, it was very effecting. All politicians should listen carefully to the messages from this protest."

German Heide Ruhle of the European Parliament's Womens' Rights Commission commented on the large number of women attending and involved in the organization of the "Caglayan Meeting," saying "It is very meaningful that women have stood up for democratic values."

Lagendijk of the Turkey-EU Commission also noted that the Turkish military should listen to the message coming out of Caglayan, saying "While coming out in force for democracy, the masses of people also said that the military should stay far from politics." He added that the slogan which had most affected him was "We don't want sharia or a coup, we want full democracy for Turkey."
