The Russian news service Pravda is reporting that al-Qaida has trained 50 female suicide bombers to carry out attacks in Turkey during Ramadan, according to United Press International. Turkish special services have determined that al-Qaida trained the women to carry out the attacks during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim calendar during which the faithful are expected to fast from sunrise to sunset, according to the source. Although an extensive network of al-Qaida cells is not currently operating in Turkey, authorities are worried that al-Qaida may attack the holiday resorts in the south. Active measures are presently being taken to prevent suicide bombings in Turkey. In August Syrain-born al-Qaida leader Luia Sakra was arrested in Turkey. Officials believe that Sakra was involved in the the July London bombings as well as the September 11 attacks on the US. Â
