Turkey, which started mass production of automobiles with "Anadol" in 1966, became an automotive center with foreign investments, it was reported on Wednesday. According to a study carried out by Chamber of Commerce in Central Anatolian city of Konya, the first automobile was manufactured in Turkey in 1961 with the name Anadol. Mass production of Anadol continued till 1982.

Foreign entrepreneurs started to get interested in Turkish market in 1990's and Turkey started to manufacture minibus, lorry, pickup truck, and tractor in the year 2000's.

According to the study, Turkey earned 11.6 billion USD from automotive exports as of 2005.

Exports in automotive industry rose 16 percent in January-July period when compared with the same period of last year.

Germany ranks the first among countries which Turkey exported in 2005. Italy, France and Britain were the other leading countries.

Turkish automotive sector exported products to 177 countries in 5 continents and 15 autonomous regions in 2005. 68 percent of the exports was made to EU countries.
